Yesterday ended the month of February which for students was reading month. In order to motivate their students to read one area school decided to reward students for reaching their reading goals. St. John's School made a deal that if the middle school students read 10,000 pages and grades 1-5 read 20,000 pages, the students would get a sleigh ride around town and then they would get to bury their principals in the snow. Well they made it and Principal Frydenlund said it was pretty obvious which prize the students were looking forward to the most... (Principal Paul Frydenlund, St. John Elementary School) The kids have been excited. I've had a lot of parents tell me the kids that have been non-readers how excited that they've been doing this reading to bury the principals and it's just been a motivation type deal so. This was the first year St. John offered this reward to the students for reading and even though it was a great success, Principal Frydelund wasn't sure if it was one of his best ideas...
