Meat that was shipped to schools and fast food resturants around the country including North Dakota is being recalled by the U-S Department of Agriculture. The 143 million pounds of frozen beef came a southern California slaughterhouse that's being accused of mistreating cattle and slaughtering downer cattle. North Dakota Public of Instruction says 123 tons of ground beef was sent to our state and is worth about 377-thousand dollars. D-P-I says about one-third of the meat has been delivered to schools and other commodity programs. The schools have put it in freezers and the rest in a warehouse. Officials say no one has become ill from eating the meat but because of the nature in which the meat was processed the USDA is recalling it. USDA says the recall will affect beef products dating to February 1st, 2006, that came from Westland/Hallmark Meat Company, based in Chino, California. « Less
