They have more than enough signatures - now, members of the Mayor's committee on a new Community Bowl for Minot say they're ready to work on convincing voters to support the financing plan for the multi-sport facility. At a press conference attended by officials from high schools and community groups in the area, and from Minot State University, Community Bowl Committee members showed off a stack of petitions they say hold signatures of more than 32-hundred people in Minot. That's well over the 2,630 needed to get this issue on the ballot this June. (Wendy Howe, Committee Member) "It is vital that we always look ahead and work hard to drive our economic health and diversity. This project is about that vision and drive. We cannot defer to other cities as they expand their facilities, we must remain competitive and our group believes that the Minot Area Community Bowl will help us do just that." If the petitions are certified, Minot voters will be asked to OK a diversion of one-half of the income from the city sales tax devoted to the Northwest Area Water Supply project for three years - long enough to raise about nine million of the total 11-million dollar bill for the facility.
