Ward County Engineer Roger Kluck today asked County Commissioners to release him from an agreement that he provide engineering work for the Ward County Water Resource Board. Kluck's request came after commissioners heard from Laverne Mikkelson, who accused the engineer of writing a letter without water board approval concerning a request Mikkelson made. Kluck responded he had the approval of the water board. He then proceeded to request that he be relieved from performing engineering work for the water board, saying he did not appreciate being caught in the middle of disputes between the water board and county board. Commissioners voted 4-to-1 to grant Kluck's request to be released from working for the water board, although Kluck was instructed to approach the water board with the same request. In his presentation, Mikkelson asked the commission to appoint a committee to look into what he sees as problems on the water board. But Ward County State's Attorney John VanGrinsven says the county board has no control over the water board, except to set its budget and appoint its members. « Less
