The Minot High girls Basketball team held its first workouts of the season today. The Majettes return just 2 starters off of last year's team that finished fourth in the west region. Head coach Bruce Anderson says the Majettes will have a mixture of size and speed and will need to work on shooting to be competitive. Bruce Anderson, MHS girls b-ball coach:We got Danny Luetzen back and Kelcie Feland back and then Victoria Poole played a lot. Those are the three kids with experience otherwise everybody's pretty new. I think we'll be quick at certain positions, I don't know if our overall team quickness will be good. But I think we're gonna have some decent size. I think we can be a pretty good defensive team. The question is offensively and how well we shoot. We're gonna have to spend a lot of time on shooting drills. Kelci Feland, senior:It'll be interesting to see how we do this year because we're basically starting new. Danny Luetzen and Victoria Poole are coming back and we've been working together all summer so. Meanwhile it's no surprise that Mandan will be looked at again as the favorite in the west reigon. Anderson:You know you always have Mandan is tough. Bismarck High is very good this year. Jamestown's got an excellent ballclub coming back. Century's got a good team. Dickinson, they lose their big girl, but they still have some pretty good kids back. St. Mary's has most of their kids. It's gonna be a very balanced year just like last year. The Majettes open their season December 8th at Grand Forks Red River.  « Less
