So, what's the economic impact of thousands of hunters spending time in North Dakota? Clayton Clark talked with some people about what deer hunting means to the local economy... (Clayton Clark, KX News) Besides thinning out the deer population...deer hunters bring a lot to Minot and Northwest North Dakota. The economy thrives off the boom created by out of town hunters that travel to the region for its great hunting, making for good business in the area. (Wendy Howe, Executive Dir. Minot CVB) Hunting and fishing and all of the outdoors obviously have a huge impact and this time of year is probably one of the biggest parts of that impact because of the deer hunting season. People from all over the country come to North Dakota to enjoy that experience because they know this is one of the best places to be able to do that type of hunting. (Clayton Clark, KX News) Hotels are booked, restaurants are crowded and gas stations are just about everyone's last stop before they hit the road. (Justin Hovda, Minot Hunter) Just picking up some food getting ready to go out there and get my deer hopefully. (Rose Fulkes, Cenex Manager) Actually I put on extra staff because I figured it was going to be extra busy but we have a really good crowd and the hunters are always really friendly and so that's a little less stressfull. (Clayton Clark, KX News) North Dakota is known nationwide for its quality hunting. Flights arrived to Minot International full of people from all over looking for a buck... even from big cities in the Northeast. (Bob Huber, Pittsburgh, PA) Pittsburgh or near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Justin Berg, Boston, MA) Boston, Massachusetts. (Clayton Clark, KX News) The hunting brings them in, but it's the people that keep them coming back. (Bob Huber, Pittsburgh, PA) It's a nice atmosphere, friendly people. Great people up here. (Justin Berg, Boston, MA) The people. Great people. Quality people. I went to UND about ten years ago and the people are the best, very giving. You breakdown on the side of the road here three people stop. In Boston they run you over. (Clayton Clark, KX News) So even if you're like me and have never held a gun in your life...you can still appreciate what the fine hunting North Dakota has can do for the region. « Less
