North Dakota is the eighth healthiest state in the nation... The 18th annual edition of America's Health Rankings says North Dakota's strengths include low rates of crime and disease. Tobacco use is also declining... But the state's challenges include high rates of binge drinking, obesity, and children in poverty. (Terry Dwelle, ND Health Officer) People don't accept tobacco use generally across our nation and state as being appropriate behavior. We don't have the same feelings toward alcohol and diet and exercise and nutrition problems. And this will take some new paradigms in health messaging and health outreach. Vermont knocked Minnesota out of the top spot. Hawaii, New Hampshire and Connecticut round out the top five healthiest states. « Less
