The late August tornado that ripped through Northwood is still being felt today even if the winds have calmed. The town still sits in ruins, and much work still needs to be done to get it back to something close to normal. That process will get a shot in the arm this week from a group from Minot. Today's 'Someone You Should Know' looks at the effort a group of Minot volunteers will be making this weekend and how you can help too! Here's Perry Olson... (Perry Olson - KX News) A North Dakota winter is bearing down on us...and for the residents of Northwood that is of great concern this year. Just a few months removed from the worst tornado the town has ever experienced much work still needs to be done...and that work will be done this weekend. (Mike Pankow - Minot) As of now we have about 20 guys going... That is Mike Pankow of Minot he's helping to bring the group to the town to get it ready for Old Man Winter... (Mike Pankow - Minot) There is an apartment building that needs work so they can live in there and there are about 25 homes that need doors, and shingles and windows so they can live in it for the winter. The group is being led by Lutheran Disaster Response in the state along with other denominations, dozens of people will be there from across North Dakota. (Mike) It will be nice to help them out and get in their homes. In the Minot area it was word of mouth that helped Mike gather up the extra hands for the weekend... (Mike) The way it started was I mentioned it to my minister and he mentioned it in church. I talked to some friends and their ministers talked about it at church and it just went from there. It is going to be lots of fun. Get some people together, help some people out...it will be lots of fun. He'll lead the group this weekend a group of volunteers the people of Northwood will be happy to know. Perry Olson, KX News. If you would like to join the group headed east this weekend, you can do so by filling out a form found online. The website is www.LDRND.org. Or you can just call Mike Pankow at 838-2453. « Less
