A fire this week at a strip mall in South Minot has meant some adjustments for local businesses. The business which suffered the most damage is the Water Doctor. However, they are back in business in a temporary location, an empty spot in the nearby CompuTech building. Shear Success has moved in a location in The View for awhile, and The Bead Shop was planning to move anyway. Owner Tiffany Groschee says she'll re-locate sooner than she had planned. By next week she will open in the former Chocolatopia building downtown. The Sweetheart Bread store had little damage from the fire and has reopened in the same location. Have you been downtown yet to check out the new businesses on the former Walters building? Plans are to restore the building and put in several specialty shops. Two are open already. One is a business called Soups and More. The other: Stella's Gourmet Kettle Corn run by Heather Phillips. She offers a variety of flavored kettle corn, and is constantly coming up with more varieties. (Heather Phillips, Stella's Kettle Gourmet Kettle Corn) Somebody will tell me something they like and they ask me if I can do it with popcorn, because popcorn and pizza are universal foods. She says she's been busy putting together gift packages and is now putting together bags of kettle corn that is being sold as fundraisers for area schools. Several businesses to mention in Garrison... Nate and Jessica Turck are opening a 7 day a week 24 hour fitness center on main street in a few weeks. It will be called The Body Shop Fitness Center. Nathan Truck is a chiropractor and will also open a clinic soon in the back of the Fessiwigs building. Garrison State Bank has been doing some remodeling...including re-aligning the teller area, making the lobby more user friendly, updating the technology and will soon add an ATM machine. The lounge that used to be known as the Goosenest was purchased by Craig Smith over the summer and the name changed to the Live Well. Smith is from Minnesota and loved the fishing around the Garrison area, and decided to move here. There's a national company autotrader.com that matches up auto dealers with buyers. The company is growing and they have now hired a local man as an advertising consultant to represent our area. He is Chris Burnside, who lives in Berthold. For Business Beat, I'm Carla Burbidge. « Less
