Its the number one question you hear when talking about North Dakota's workforce - do we have enough people to fill all of the new jobs. Since the year 2000, there have been twenty five thousand new jobs created in North Dakota. Brad Feldman shows us how one event is helping two groups come together to find the answer to the most common question. There are plenty of jobs available in North Dakota. No matter what industry you are looking for chances are there is a job waiting for you. (Dave Farnsworth/ Great River Energy) We are now in the process of hiring probably five to seven times the numbers we normally do in a given year. (Don Morton/ Microsoft) In the last year we added close to 200 jobs. This year were going to add 175 new jobs. Today, Morton and Farnsworth are spending time with young professionals at the second annual Governors Workforce Summit. (Shane Goettle/ ND Dept. of Commerce) The goals of this initiative are to attract, retain and expand the North Dakota Workforce. One of the groups coming forward to help businesses find qualified people is the Young Professionals Network of North Dakota. (Justin Forde/ Chair, NDYP) there is a lot of talk about how a lof of talented young people have left. But I am here to say I know 850 very young talented people who are right here and are ready to lead North Dakota into the future. Hearing this message coming from a group of enthusiastic young professionals is nice for businesses looking for this kind of person to join their team. (Don Morton/ Microsoft) this generation of young people that is graduating from college now, they grew up with the internet. They are very intuitive, they bring a lot of skill sets to us. Its these kinds of partnerships that has North Dakotas future looking good. And just might be the answer we need when it comes to finding those people who will fill those jobs. Brad Feldman KX News The Governors Workforce Summit wraps up tomorrow in Bismarck. About three hundred people are attending this years event. « Less
