An escape at the North Central Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in Ruby was foiled when officers discovered saw blades in one of the inmates cells. Two correctional officers are being charged with aiding in the attempted escape Shaun Sipma has the latest develops on the story. Gashes around a window in a jail cell in the North Central Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in Rugby were as far as three inmates got in their attempted ascape. 5:16 (Elaine Little, NCCRC Administrator) They were able to remove the caulk they didn't get too much further. The windows are so secure that they were a long way from removing that window. NCCRC Administrator Elaine Little says three inmates Gabriel and Ramon Martinez brothers and Michael Todd Wright were working together to saw their way out using these blades that were smuggled into the facility by two correctional officers Becky Willison and Keri Brandt. 5:44 (Little) We did have information that the saw blades were to go to the Martinez brothes and so we started in their cell block and it didn't take officers very long at all. Little says the blades were being hidden in Gabriel Martinez's cell, being slid underneath his sink in a hollow compartment. 5:50 (Little) They were protruding out into what is a plumbing closet and so our officers were able to locate that quite quickly in that cell block. The Window they were working on though was actually in Wrights cell. The two guards Willison and Brandt are under arrest and are being charged with bringing a dangerous weapon in a correctional facility. 10:23 (Little) We're very disappointed and upset that officers would jeopardize the safety of the staff and inmates and community by trying to assist inmates in escaping. Administrator Little says the Martinez brothers and Wright will most likely face escape charges as well. In Rugby, Shaun Sipma KX News. At a bond hearing this afternoon at the Pierce County Courthouse, District Judge John McClintock ordered that Willison and Brandt, the guards who smuggled the blades in, be held without bond. McClintock said more charges from the state are pending. The Martinex brothers are awaiting a trial on charges of murder and conspiracy in an international drug distribution ring. « Less
