The new KXMC building and studio is really taking shape. You can see it behind Minot Lumber, or right along Highway 2 and 52. The satellite dishes went up this week. Construction on the building should be complete this fall, after that, the wiring for a TV station will take several weeks. As you know, our current building on South Broadway which has been our home for over 50 years, will be torn down to make way for a retail center. The investment group that bought the property says it will be similar to the Pinehurst Center in Bismarck. No stores are signed just yet. Dr. Darin Johnson has joined Eyecare and Eyewear, in the Plaza on 31st. Dr. Johnson is a native of the Velva/Karlsuhe area and recently moved back to North Dakota. Dr. Johnson has purchased the practice from Dr. David Thomas, but the two will work together to continue the business, as well as add some new technology. The name will not change. Dakota Square Mall is getting a new store. It's called Wet Seal, scheduled to open in November of 2008 across from CVS Pharmacy. The chain store is based in California and has trendy clothes for younger people. There are approximately 400 other Wet Seal stores. The restaurant Bonafelli's closed a few weeks ago. Owners of the Metro Center say they are looking for a replacement tenant. The owners of the Glass Doctor of Minot have received the Top Gun designation for three years in a row. Mike Nogosek owns the store at 1122 South Broadway. The award is given to the top 10-percent of Glass Doctor franchises who achieve sales, service and other benchmarks. The store has been undergoing a facelift recently and has a new look. In Stanley, the lumber company changed hands. It was Will Lumber for 97 years, recently Farmers Union Lumber of Kenmare purchased this long-time business when the owners retired. In Williston, Redline Power Sports is a new business. Owner Clint Hudkins ran the business from his home for awhile, before moving here along Highway 2 across from the airport. He has a full inventory of hot-tubs, saunas, pool tables, ATVs, plus accessories. For Business Beat I'm Carla Burbidge. « Less
