Congress is in recess until early September and Senator Byron Dorgan is taking advantage of the pause to travel around North Dakota and talk with local farmers and ranchers. Today Senator Dorgan was in Williston taking about issues surrounding grazing rights on public land and the on-going challenges ranchers continue to face. Dorgan says many ranchers heavily rely on public land for feed and that any change in policy can have a big impact on their operations. Senator Byron Dorgan, (D) North Dakota): We have grasslands that are grazed. I feel very strongly that we want to continue the economic activity on grasslands. I'm very interested to making sure that have cattle grazing. That obviously is something that boosts our economy we have a substantial portion in western North Dakota and some in the southeastern corner as well but this is a significant part of life in North Dakota. Dorgan continues his travels across the state tomorrow when he'll visit with farmers out East about the new Farm Bill. « Less
