The Minot Police Department is investigating a reported attack that happened just north of Minot State University on Monday night. It happened here in the parking lot of the Campus Heights apartment complex at 11 P-M when a female Minot State Student was getting into her car. She says she was hit from behind and knocked to the ground but the man then took off running after another car drove into the lot. MSU Vice President of Student Affairs, Dick Jenkins, heard of the attack Tuesday morning, and school president Dr. David Fuller later sent an e-mail to faculty, staff, and students. That e-mail not only informed of the attack, but also warned students to be extra vigilant... (Dick Jenkins) Take extra precautions. Obviously, there are times when all precautions probably aren't sufficient. But hopefully by being aware, at least they're doing what they can do. Part of the notice reads, Having the event happen on the Minot State University campus and in the wake of the off-campus death of student Anita Knutson is cause for great concern. However, authorities say they see no indication the two incidents are related. (Detective Bob Barnard, Minot Police Department) At this point in time, we don't have any indication this incident is related to any others. I don't think this is an upturn in crime in the communityit just happens a lot of things have happened at the same time that have focused our attention on this type of situation. The Minot Police Department's K-9 unit was used that night to try and track down the man, but that investigation went cold. The suspect is described as wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and jeans but that is all the information that has been released at this time. The woman's identity is still being withheld but the release from MSU says she did sustain minor injuries.
