According to our CBS affiliate WREG in Memphis, Tennessee......The Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA have hired Dakota Wizards Head Coach Dave Joerger as an assistant coach. No official announcement by the Grizzlies will be made until all the contracts are finalized. Joining Joerger as assistants to recently hired Grizzlie Head Coach Marc Iavaroni are: former Orlando Magic Head Coach Johnny Davis and former Utah assistant Gordon Chiesa. The Dakota Wizards and Joerger are not commenting at this time until the announcement is made. All three assistants are staying at the Grizzlies hotel in Memphis. The Grizzlies have cleaned house recently. After a rough 22-60 season, Jerry West will resign as head of Basketball operations July 1st. And along with recently hired Iavaroni, the team has also hired Chris Wallace as their general manager. So Joerger and the new staff will have a lot of work to do, but they have a very young and talented team on their hands. Along with South Dakota native Mike Miller who will be starting his 7th year in the league, the Grizzlies have one of the rising European Stars in the NBA with Pau Gasol from Spain. Last year the team had four rookies listed on the roster and they will have the 4th pick in next weeks NBA draft. Again, according to our CBS affiliate WREG in Memphis, Tennessee.....Dakota Wizards Head coach Dave Joerger has been hired as an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA. After coaching the Wizards in the IBA and the CBA, Joerger left Dakota in 2004 to coach the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the CBA. And last year he returned to Bismarck where he led the Wizards to the NBA-D League championship in their inaugural season in the D-League. In his successful career Joerger has won 5 championships in minor league basketball posting an overall record of 232-117.
