Is this a Tornado? We'll tell you what the experts have to say. It was a busy evening last night for everyone here at KX News. Severe weather rolled through the viewing area, bringing with it reports of funnel clouds. Our Meteorologist Hutch Johnson was busy in the Dakota Storm Center reporting the latest information and showing the live images from our Skycam. At one point, a suspicious cloud could be seen on skycam. Hutch thought it looked very much like a funnel cloud but never could confirm it. So, he sent the video in to the National Weather Service in Bismarck. At first, Meteorologist In Charge, Jim Meyer though it was the real thing too. But he now says he thinks the suspicious image was a rain shaft. (Jim Meyer / Meteorologist, National Weather Service in Bismarck): A tornado development on the leading edge of a system like that is not out of the question.. it can happen. But it's not classic, or it's not the normal. The last time a tornado hit in Bismarck was back on November first, two-thousand. « Less
