Is she a walking Miracle? You decide... Here's the story of Sheila Faut from Hazen... (Sheila Faut/ Hazen) My husband from day one, has been extremely supportive he's been my rock. August 8th 2006...that's the day Sheila Faut was diagnosed with cancer. (Sheila Faut/ Hazen) Within 24 hours of regular white blood cell count testing, I found out that I had leukemia so, I walked into the office and she said the word 'leukemia' and that's all I heard. Her leukemia came as a shock, she just went to the doctor for a rash which is usually not a symptom of the disease. (Maynard Bronstein, M.D. Oncologist) Usually people present with fatigue, bleeding, infections, bruising, abdominal discomfort from a large spleen. To be honest, I don't know if that rash had anything to do with the leukemia at all. It may have just been a lucky rash. Her leukemia was caught early. She was put on a miracle medication which is working, but makes her very sick. (Sheila Faut/ Hazen) Just kinda motivated myself to keep going and things just kinda changed the more you study, the more you learn about it the more you wanna help out and that's how I came across the website... A website about leukemia and a website about a marathon... (Sheila Faut/ Hazen) Did you're husband think you were crazy? He said I'd better check with my doctor first. Today's she trains with her three sidekicks. She's gonna walk in a 13 mile marathon/I'm just really proud. So she can get a cure. On June third she travels to California where yet another journey begins... Sheila, will walk a half marathon and hopes to raise enough money to make a difference in the fight against leukemia. (Sheila Faut/ Hazen) To be a survivor, to me that's the motivation, the one thing that I was the most afraid of and that brake my heart was for my kids to see me sick and so it's always get up, get motivated, get moving. It's the motivation for them to see, staying healthy no matter what you have to go through. Sheila is considered to be in remission. But it will take a couple more years to really know for sure. She says if there weren't foundations raising money for cancer research, her miracle medication would have never been discovered. If you would like to make a donation to support her marathon run log on to www.active.com/donate/tntvirtual/vtntSFaut There is also an account set up at Union State Bank in Hazen if anyone is not comfortable placing a donation on the internet. « Less
