Sunday's killing of Osama bin Laden leaves an area military lieutenant colonel with mixed emotions. Lt. Col. Mike Masiker of the Ohio National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing returned in December 2010 from a year-long tour in Afghanistan, his fifth tour of duty in the past two decades to Southwest Asia. He first served in Turkey and Kuwait as the 180th Fighter Wing and other American forces fought Saddam Hussein and Iraqi troops. His latest overseas assignment was as an Afghan Air Force adviser in the war on terror. Masiker went to bed early Sunday night and only learned of Bin Laden's death when he woke up the next morning. But it's a bittersweet military victory for him personally, because nine fellow airmen were executed last week by an Afghan air force officer. Two of those victims were good friends.  « Less
