Here in New Mexico it’s hard to get an H1N1 flu vaccine. State officials say it’s because the vaccine has been trickling in to hospitals and health centers. But just across the border in Colorado, mass vaccinations clinics are open. La Plata County, Colorado has been holding vaccination clinics for the public. So far they’ve administered about 6,200 H1D1 doses. Meanwhile, across the border in San Juan County, New Mexico, only about 1,800 vaccine doses has been received. Health officials say that’s not enough to hold a mass vaccine clinic. But hospital officials in San Juan County are encouraging New Mexicans in the high risk group to go to their local public health office to sign up for the vaccine. "I don't think we're out of the woods yet with H1N1,” said Penny Hill of the San Juan Regional Medical Center. “A lot of the epidemiologists are predicting that we may see a second surge especially after the holidays. People travel a lot and are around sick people with family members or friends during the holidays, and we typically see a surge in that afterward." Some have asked if they could just drive across the border to La Plata County, Colorado to get the H1N1 vaccine.
