It's that time of year again, turkey and travel headaches. AAA predicts some 38.4 million Americans will be traveling fifty miles or more from home this holiday. Thats almost one and a half percent more than last year "With more than a half million of us more traveling this year grandma might have to set an extra plate at the table after all," said AAAs Glen MacDonell. Most of those will be traveling by car, 33.2 million. Thats about 1.3 million more than last year. And while the number traveling by air should be down some 200,000 passengers don't expect to be able to stretch out on your flight "The planes are actually going to feel more packed then they have in the past and that's because capacity is down, said Jennifer Gaines of Travelocity. And for that, you will likely be paying more with higher fees for everything from food to checked baggage. Those higher costs, along with tighter security and more frequent delays are why experts say air travel is down a whopping 62 percent this decade. "The economy continues to weigh heavily on leisure travel decisions even on this important family holiday," MacDonell said. But those who will travel say they'll spend an average $718. on their holiday trip even in the continuing uncertain economic times it seems, for many, turkey day with family is too important to carve out completely. « Less
