in front of sea of friends, family and neighbors-- governor bruce king is remembered as the cowboy governor. "he greeted people with a handshake or a hug. he had a way of making everyone feel important." former president bill clinton met king in december of 1978-- at a seminar for governors. "when i met bruce king, i thought i was a personable, likeable, warm outgoing person. but he made me look like a psychopathic shut- in." president clinton and the former first lady were friends with governor king and his late wife alice for three decades. the kings even spent the night at the white house in the lincoln bedroom. "we all loved him, because he loved us." he says he could always count on governor king for a laugh and a lesson-- on politics and life. "he said, you know, politicians get in trouble when they forget it's a job. and that we get hired to do a job and the best thing you can do is just show up and do it." at his graveside services his son, attorney general gary king received his father's folded flag. "we're just so proud of him. and we miss him a lot." he's grateful to the hundreds of people who came to honor his father's legacy-- and says he'll work to carry that legacy on. "from humble beginnings that he worked hard and became a very great man and we're going to miss him." lt. governor dianne denish says the crowd of mourners and the long processional are evidence of the love the cowboy governor is leaving behind. "it was new mexico's version of a state funeral. and it was a great collection of people from all over new mexico, who really cared about the kings." "we're gonna walk around heaven. my mother she'll be waiting. you know my father, he'll be waiting. brothers and sisters, they'll be waiting. you know, mrs. king she'll be there waiting..." king touched the lives of both dignitaries and everyday people he met throughout his lifetime. they were also at today's services to pay their respects. valerie castro continues our team coverage tonight. valerie. from family friends to people he appointed to his administration, king will be remembered as a friendly face who saw a stranger in no one. hundreds attended king's funeral service today to honor a man who many couldn't say enough good things about. they say he was a man of honesty and integrity who greeted everyone with a handshake. "i'm going to miss him terribly. there'll never be another governor- another cowboy governor- like bruce king." "he knew all of us- he's who is your mother, oh, yeah, that's tilley. she's over there in torrence county. i know her really well. he knew everybody. he was amazing." king was buried at the cemetary in stanley next to his wife alice. « Less
