the u-s department of justice highlights the four corners area is one of the worst areas in new mexico for meth abuse. san juan county's new meth treatment center hopes to change that. the nearly three million dollar facility officially opened yesterday. the center will provide local courts with an alternative to jail -- allowing addicts to enter a 60-day treatment program at the center rather than just being locked up at the county jail. "there's no question that in this four corners area and probably in this community that we've had a high incidence, but we're hoping as we move along and statistics will prove that we're doing some good in trying to turn that back." the plans to build the center started in 2006 -- but it's taken several years to get the money together. the county has had a meth program in place for the past three years -- but it shared space with a similar program for drunk driving.  « Less
