One of Minot's newest companys is officially up and running, but several recent setbacks have delayed its progress. Heliplane is a company that builds "air trailers" for increased air cargo payload for private, commercial, or military applications. The company has been approved for a $500,000 loan from Minot's job-creating MAGIC Fund. In order to receive their scheduled loan installments, Heliplane must first reach several milestones in the production process. One of those milestones involves sending a letter to the city by November 21st, verifying that the Heliplane's take off, load capacity, and landing capabilities live up to company promises. Heliplane CFO, Thom Dasher, says their aerial demonstration, set to take place at a restricted air facility in Smokey Hill, Kansas has been postponed due to weather and manufacturer delays. Today, he addressed members of the Magic Fund Screening Committee, requesting the deadline be extended to December 31st. (Thom Dasher, CFO - Heliplane, LLC) "It's built, it's on the flight line. As I said, we are scheduled to go next week and we certainly have our demo scheduled with the Kansas National Guard the following week after the holidays. So on that note, I graciously ask you to please provide us the extension, just to December 31st and we are ready to lock-and-load." The committee ultimately voted to approve the request, and their recommendation will now go to Minot's full City Council for a final decision.  « Less
