A road construction project given new life by recent warmer weather is now nearly complete. The section of U.S. Highway 83 running from north of Max to the Garrison junction has been under renovation since late spring, but by early next week, the southbound lanes should once again be ready for traffic. Cold temperatures and wet conditions slowed work throughout October, but project engineer, Chad Beggs, says the pace has definitely picked-up in November. The contractor in charge of construction has finished resurfacing the road and has now moved on to the finishing touches, such as striping and seeding grass along the highway. Begg's says if all goes well, it should be open for business after the weekend. (Chad Beggs, Project Engineer) "They're hoping to have it opened up Monday to at least one lane of traffic going both directions on each side. Then, they've got to do some median work to finish everything up and then they'll get it completely open." Beggs says if winter had arrived early, they still would've been able to open traffic on the south-bound lanes, but being able to complete the project this year is a big sigh of relief.  « Less
