former governor bruce king will be laid to rest saturday morning. today his son gary, new mexico's attorney general, shared memories of his dad's long life and legendary political career. stuart dyson has the story. gary king - wearing a neck brace after surgery two weeks ago - wanted to talk bruce king with reporters today. king says his dad - a three term governor - never considered a run for u.s. senate - or a cabinet position in washington d.c. " he never wanted to leave the estancia valley - he wanted to be close to the ranch - close to the farm - close to the earth - and so he never had any desire to take any political office that would cause him to have to leave the state of new mexico.' bruce king was the longest serving governor in state history - leaving office after gary johnson defeated him in 1994 - but no regrets. " his last years for him were very very positive - life affirming - he loved being on the ranch - he loved being with the grandkids and great grandkids." gary says bruce stayed engaged in politics - encouraging others in the family to carry on. " he was very happy and i'm very happy that he survived to seme be elected as the attorney general - these guys will tell you he was very proud - the day that he pinned the badge on me." gary says bruce would be tickled to know that former president clinton - a good pal - plans to attend the funeral saturday.
