wrong pond finally gets his day in court. stuart dyson reports from the bernalillo county courthouse where steve trujillo says he lost the battle... but won the war. " the courtroom drama lasted 25 minutes - about as long as a judge judy episode - but before we go there let's visit the scene of the crime." it was a hot day back in june when steve trujillo took his two year old son gabriel fishing at tingley beach. they fished in the kiddie pond - trujillo baiting and casting - showing his son how it's done - and that's how he got into trouble. a game and fish officer ticketed him for fishing beyond the age limit - the fine - 110 dollars. trujillo fought the ticket and lost in metro minute thumbnail 06:15 pm court - appealing the case today in district court. " it was never a matter of money - like i say 110 dollars - but for somebody just trying to spend time with their child and take him out fishing for the day and like - hey you're not supposed to help 'em and here's a fine of 110 bucks." the judge hearing testimony from the officer who says he was working undercover - plainclothes - looking for lawbreakers at tingley that day.. " i observed mr trujillo from about 11:15 to 11:45 casting and retrieving a white pole - he did have a child present - the child many times wasn't even around." the officer did testify that new signs went up at the kiddie pond after the trujillo bust - specifying what grownups are not allowed to do there - something trujillo says is absolutely necessary. judge reed shepherd agreed with the lower court that steve trujillo is guilty - but lowered his fine to fifty bucks.
