November is Native American Cultural Awareness month and throughout this week, several Minot State students are hosting a celebration close to home. "Native American Cultural Awareness Week" is an opportunity to recognize various aspects and challenges within Native American culture. The student-led celebration is sponsored by MSU's Native American Cultural Awareness Club and this year's theme is "Health and Wellness." MSU Native American Student Counselor, Dennis Parisien PERSIAN says it's important to recognize several health issues, and they have several qualified speakers to provide some insight. (Dennis Parisien, Native American Student Counselor) "In Native American Communities, there are a lot of health issues, ranging from heart disease, diabetes, those types of things. We try to get our speakers in to talk about those kind of things, and it's creating awareness, education, so I think it's good for anybody that sits through it." Presentations will continue this Thursday afternoon at MSU. Perisien says the public is welcome to attend, and if you'd like to find out more, you can call 858-3365. « Less
