The Minot High wrestling team has begun its workouts for the winter sports season. 48 athletes are out for this years team led by 1st year head coach Nolan Spooner. The Magicians are expecting to battle in a tough west region again this year and will look to their middle weights as the team's strength. Nolan Spooner, MHS wrestling coach:For the most part we got a great group. There are some green kids but at least we're getting some athletes out which makes a difference. We have a great group of kids from about 35 up to about 60. The bad part is we got an overlap about 52. We end up with some of our varsity experience guys at 52, more than 1 of them, actually have 3 guys at 52. It's gonna be hard to get all of them on the mat during a dual. Jacob Hoffart, senior:It's looking good if we fill up our lineup with all the new kids we got coming in and if we get everybody at the weight that they should be I think we'll do pretty good as a team. Cody Dishon, senior:I think we have a good group of kids that can get us there. I mean not all of our weights are as strong as our middle weight but I think that we can cope with that and hopefully do really well. The Magicians open up their season on Tuesday when they host Dickinson.  « Less
