North Dakota Congressman Earl Pomeroy says he's being targeted by an out of state special interest group for his vote in favor of the health care bill that barely passed in the House last week. (Rep. Earl Pomeroy) "I couldn't watch a Sunday football game without seeing several times how I'm hurting seniors." Pomeroy accuses The 60 Plus Association, a conservative group running ads in the state against Pomeroy, of distorting the truth about the healthcare plan and scaring seniors. He says in his nine congressional races he has never had an opponent put money into ads like these. The ads say the plan cuts hundreds of billions in Medicare spending. (Rep. Earl Pomeroy/(D) North Dakota) "I am offended they would come after seniors try and scare seniors about their ability to choose their own doctor, come after seniors about losing precious health benefits, it's simply absolutely not true, and any group that would try and advance their agenda with undisclosed special interest money, funding political style attack ads that are fundamentally untrue and designed for the sole purpose of scaring seniors is a very pathetic way to conduct a public debate." In a counter ad... Pomeroy says "fact-check.org" evaluated the 60-Plus ads and found them mostly false. This afternoon, 60 Plus President Jim Martin released a statement saying "Congressman Pomeroy is not telling the truth when it comes to this bill. The health care reform bill Congressman Pomeroy supports cuts Medicare and could affect seniors ability to see their own doctor. Congressman Pomeroy is hiding behind AARP, but AARP makes millions of dollars from insurance royalties, so it makes sense for them to endorse the bill. This bill makes no sense for seniors, and it makes no sense for Congressman Pomeroy to support it," « Less
