And a main target in many of those ads... Representative Earl Pomeroy is speaking out against the people behind the ads. Pomeroy is calling out The 60 Plus Association... saying they are an out-of-state special interest group distorting the truth about the healthcare plan... and scaring seniors. He says in 9 congressional races he has never had an opponent put money into attack ads, like these. The ads focus on the healthcare reform plan... and how it may cause a loss of billions in medicare benefits. (Rep. Earl Pomeroy/(D) North Dakota) "I am offended they would come after seniors try and scare seniors about their ability to choose their own doctor, come after seniors about losing precious health benefits, it's simply absolutely not true, and any group that would try and advance their agenda with undisclosed special interest money, funding political style attack ads that are fundamentally untrue and designed for the sole purpose of scaring seniors is a very pathetic way to conduct a public debate." In a counter ad... Pomeroy says "fact-check.org" evaluates the ads and calls them mostly false. He was backed today by members of AARP, the American Medical Association, and the American Nurses Association, among others... Many of the health-related officials say they support reform that protects medicare, lowers prescription drug costs, increases access to coverage and protects doctor choices. While they say the bill is not perfect... It's on its way to making positive changes. (Janice Cheney/AARP) "We can not let fear and lies stop the progress we are making, the bill recently passed by the House incorporates the reforms that our members care most about. We'll continue to fight for these critical elements while the Senate takes up its legislation in the coming weeks." This afternoon, 60 + officials cancelled a conference call response to Representative Pomeroy... 60 Plus President Jim Martin instead released this statement... « Less
