The holiday season can mean a time of great need for those already struggling to make ends meet. And for the groups who provide resources to the growing number of people looking for help in our area, it's also a time to start scrambling for donations. Nonprofit Minot Area Homeless Coalition is gearing up for one of its more important fundraising periods of the year next week. This season, however, executive director Mac McLeod says they've been promised a matching grant of up to $15,000 by the St. Joseph's Community Health Foundation - an opportunity, he says, to bring in up to $30,000 for the nonprofit organization in time for the busy holiday season. McLeod says his organization helps provide the personal help that may be lacking in state or government assistance. (Mac McLeod / Exec. Director - Minot Area Homeless Coalition) "We are blessed being in the state of North Dakota because we're not like other states, we're doing fairly well, but it doesn't mean that we're exempt from the homelessness and the poverty and the hunger, because we're not." The Minot Area Homeless Coalition services a seven-county area. Fundraisers for National Homeless and Hunger Awareness Month start this coming week and all donations can be made out to the St. Joseph's Community Health Foundation.  « Less
