If staying warm in your house means curling up in a blanket...your hard earned money might be leaking out of your house. There is more you can do to have your home become more energy efficient than just putting plastic around your windows... Brad Feldman shows you a new company that can help you seal the cracks and save money. As the temperature falls...your heat bill can rise... However, Tory Otto with Thermal Auditing has the tools to make your home energy efficient. (Tory Otto/ Thermal Auditing) "When I go into a home I want the software to be able to show people the best place to put their money to upgrade their energy efficiencies that may be HVAC that might be windows that might be stopping air intrusion." Previously, Otto would use this handheld thermal camera to show you where the troubled spots are in your home...the places where you might be short on insulation. However, now he has expanded his business. He is an official energy star certifier. He has the tools and computer programs to come into your home to see where you might be losing money. Otto says the trouble spots are typically not easily seen by the naked eye. Instead he has this "blower door" connected to a computer...it can then determine how much warm air or cold air can creep into your home. Otto also has this tool that checksif there are any leaks in the heating system.. (Tory Otto/ Thermal Auditing) "According to our software we are going to be able to upgrade the attic insulation, the furnace and air consitioning. we are going to spray foam about forty feet of foundation wall and we are going to replace three dfoors for air intrusion and in the end we are looking at about eight hundred dollars a year in energy savings." A small investment in your home might just be what you need to stay warm this winter without letting heat or your money flow through the cracks.
