governor richardson is taking his own action after issuing extensive line item vetoes to budget cuts submitted by lawmakers. his announcement came at the top of the hour-- in addition to agency cuts i am also ordering 5 madatory furlough days minute thumbnail 12:31 pm for all state employees in the state executive branch. i strongly urge the xgr and other branches of state governemnt to implement furlough days as well. i will personally donate the equivalent of 5 days of my salary back to the general fund. furloughs for employees in nearly all state agencies was the major announcement from governor richardson. the governor also said he's looking to permanently get rid of a thousand state jobs which are currently vacant. the governor criticized lawmaker proposals to use stimulus money to help patch the state's 650-million dollar budget shortfall. he's now calling on lawmakers to make similar staffing moves.  « Less
