The placebo effect is where a patient simply thinks a medication in the form of a pill is actually making them feel better even if the pill has no proven effect. Physicians prescribe placebos to calm a patient and as supplemental treatment. Sometime a place is a dummy pill;sometimes it's a real medication that's meant for something else.
