Bernalillo County deputies nab a couple who they say broke into at least 20 homes, swiping items to support their drug habit. Detectives showed off the stolen goods on Monday, including some incriminating photos deputies say the suspects took of themselves. From high-end luggage to jewelry and watches, to someone's religious wall hanging: detectives with BCSO's street crimes unit say these are just some of the items swiped during a rash of East Mountain break-ins. Victims started picking up their recovered items on Monday, including Phil Kennicott's stolen digital camera. Kennicott said of one of the photos, "That's him fanning the money." Detectives say the suspects used the camera to take pictures of themselves and their drugs. "I understand that's the case and I think that's great, Kennicutt said. "It's nice to see them convict themselves." Eyewitness News 4 first told you about the burglaries on Friday night. On Sunday, detectives got a tip that led them to Michael Lucero and Jamie Munoz. They searched the couple's home at the Warren Coronado apartments in Albuquerque, and discovered the stolen loot. Investigators say the suspects had already sold big-ticket items to support their drug problem. "They are self-admitted drug users. Self-admitted drug users and drugs and property crimes go hand in hand, and we see this every day," said Bernalillo County Sergeant Ray Chavez. The street crimes unit is hoping more victims come forward after seeing their stolen items, because the more victims that come forward, the more burglary charges can be filed against the suspects.
