They've been entertaining the Bismarck-Mandan area for years with their elaborate holiday decorations. Reporter Kate Schell travels to the Cathedral District for the last Halloween bash at 400 North Washington Street... (Jerry Woodcox/Owner) "I start decorating about a month in advance with fall stuff and then I go on to Halloween" And there is plenty to feast your eyes at...including this (sale sign). The newest addition to the Woodcox's yard.... Despite not fitting the spooky theme...this sign and the family's plan to move...haven't stopped them from throwing one last bash. (Jerry Woodcox/Owner) "We were not going to do it. In fact we were so busy with the selling of the house and getting it ready for sale and knowing we had to look for a new place, but then we had hundreds of people that wanted to do it one more time and kept calling and stopping in and saying you've got to do it one more time. So that is what we are doing." The anticipation of this being the last year might be why people began lining up before 5 o'clock today. And waiting in line doesn't seem to a problem with anyone. (Sue Cahill/Bismarck) "There is so much to look at. The costumes characters. They dont know if there is actually live people or if they are statues. I dont really think they realize they have to wait in line. It goes so fast. There is so much to see and do." (Jerry Woodcox/Owner) "Last year we had 2600 but I think we are going to beat that record tonight because it is the last shot and I think we'll get to 3000. We are ready for 2500 but we may run out of candy." The Woodcox family and friends have been putting on this Halloween spectacle for 20 years. Jerry Woodcox says it's been fun and easy to do because of the community support. (Jerry Woodcox/Owner) "The recognition of the thank you's that we get. I got another card today thank you for all of the years you have decorated. So that makes it worth while." (Jerry Woodcox/Owner) "We're not upset, but we're just, its time to quit. Time to slow down and we've had such a good time doing it. It doesnt bother me any to call this the last one." With KX News, Im Kate Schell. The Woodcox have decided to downside and will be moving into a condo. Because they will not have the room for all of the decorations, they have decided to donate all of them to their family friend, Sue Cahill. She says it will remain a mystery until next year-on what they plan to do with all of the decorations. « Less
