federal court cases in colorado are all handled in denver--at the state's only federal court building. now some county officials in the four corners area want to change that. erisa nakano is live in our farmington bureau with the story. erisa? la plata county officials want a federal court building in the city of durango. some say the 400-mile trek to the state's capital is just too much. la plata county officials hope to bring federal courtrooms to durango. "it's just really intolerable to travel 400 miles and we have snow right now, so some of our passes may be impeded, closed." when people take part in federal court cases in colorado... they have to go to the state's only federal court house--located in denver. "it certainly would cost some dollars to make it all happen. we would be looking for funding sources like grants to help pay for those things." la plata county manager shawn nau supports getting a federal court building in durango... but also knows the tough economy could make it difficult. "it is a roller coaster. it seems like it's going to happen one day and the next day it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. you just have to be patient and keep working through the process." county officials say they decided to buy property acss the street from the county court house to possibly turn the land into county and federal buildings. ththcounty will meet next month to continue negotiations. reporting live in farmington... erisa nakano... eyewitness news 4.  « Less
