a designated 'bicycle boulevard' where the speed limit is 18-miles- per-hour. he sent us this question: "cars are still speeding and blowing through the stop signs. i have never seen anybody cited or pulled over for anything when it is obvious that almost everyone is speeding. what is the point in spending all of the money on a project like that when it is not enforced?" jeff maher spent the day looking into it -- and got a pledge from police. on silver avenue in nob hill -- the speed limit became 18 miles per hour back in april when the city designated the road as a bicycle boulevard. but not all drivers follow that rule. u-n-m student minute thumbnail 06:16 pm linda peirce can test to that "there's people not even looking, i'm on the sidewalk and i almost get hit crossing" peirce says she's constantly dodging traffic on her bike -- and watching out for bad drivers "running stop signs, not watching, i feel like bikes should have the right of way, especially on this street" we took out our radar gun to see if drivers were speeding. right off the bat -- we caught a driver going 28 miles per hour. this one was going 27 before he started slowing down. most of the others followed the speed limit "i rarely see anyone here actually doing the speed limit" we called albuquerque police -- they say they are not aware of any complaints of speeders on silver avenue down the bicycle boulevard. they say they do regular patrols in that area -- but say now that we've contacted them about the problem -- they will do an evaluation to see if more traffic enforcement is need. "i've never seen anyone go probably anything under 20 at least, and a lot of the bikes i've seen have to drive off the road a lot of the time, i've seen several people minute thumbnail 06:17 pm almost get hit by cars that were just speeding past here" jeff maher. eyewitness news four. the city spent about 400- thousand dollars for new bicycle boulevard signage on silver. overall -- cyclists we talked to today said they've seen some improvement when it comes to speeders.// « Less
