"here's an opportunity to apologize to lobo nation.-2" tonight lobo head football coach mike locksley talks about losing his temper. he admits things turned physical--- but stops short of saying he decked an assistant coach. either way-- u- minute thumbnail 10:00 pm n-m leaders say what locksley did at a meeting was uncalled for--- and punished the coach. but some say locksley got a slap on the wrist for a punch in the face. eric kahnert talked to the coach and got reaction from fans. he's live at university stadium with tonight's top story, eric? coach locksley met with reporters here after practice tonight to talk about the altercation -- which happened inside one of the coach's rooms here. locksley received a verbal warning ... fans have mixed reaction with that punishment. during a flag- football tournament on u- n-m's campus tonight ... word quickly spread that head football coach mike locksley got into a fight with one of his assistant coaches. "pretty shocking.-1" "that's not the way a coach should handle it, especially a new coach coming in trying to turn things around.-6" during a coach's meeting on september 20th, wide receivers coach j-b gerald tells police locksley grabbed him by his shirt collar and punched him in the mouth as other coaches tried to break up the fight. minute thumbnail 10:01 pm tonight locksley talked to reporters about the incident -- which happened after u-n-m's loss to air force. "it wasn't necessarily a punch, i'm not going to get into specifics as to what happened and how it happened.-6" gerald filed a police report ... and says he was cut on his upper lip and received a scratch on his forearm. coach locksley also has a scratch on his face, but wouldn't say if it was from the fight. "i'm not getting into specifics, in the coaching offices we have disagreements, we can agree to disagree.-8" locksley received a verbal warning, and has been written up -- but he was not suspended, and the university is not planning any further discipline. "i'm glad it wasn't anything more stricter.-2" "i think that there should have been a harder punishment because he actually punched a coach and that's not good for the team to see or anyone to see at all.- 7" "i think that's a serious punishment, anytime you're verbally reprimanded it stays with you.-8" minute thumbnail 10:02 pm the first year coach promises fans he won't make the same mistake twice. 9:09 "i take full responsibility for my part in the altercation.-3" coach lockley has personally asked gerald to return to the team, but he hasn't yet, and remains on paid leave. reporting live from unm, ekeywn4. this is the second recent complaint against the coach. coach locksley is also facing a sexual harrassment claim from a former administrative assistant. sylvia lopez says she was fired because locksley only wanted young women in the front office to entice recruits. locksley has denied the allegations --- and filed a countersuit. u-n-m officials say the case is close to being resolved.  « Less
