For the past 35 years, a local doctor has been making people smile... For him, its just another part of the job. Reporter Kate Schell talks with one of his patients, who can't stop grinning... They say a smile is worth a thousand words...but for some...that's not always the case.. You know, are they noticing my gap? Jill Goetz had always been self-conscious of her smile and she avoided it at all costs...In 2006, she was diagnosed with cancer....and her smiles went away... Your sick everyday and you dont even feel like putting make up on or feeling beautiful. Its difficult.andamp;quot; 3 But, after battling cancer....smiling is all she wanted to do... (Jill Goetz/Mandan) andamp;quot;But as you start to get better and once everything was all done, it was like ok Jill your going to be just fine. So I was like okgreat. Now what can I do? Im going to color my hairits growing back. Ive never been happy with my smile. Im ready to be beautfiul.andamp;quot; So she called up Dr. Heringer... (Dr. Everett Heringer/Dentist) andamp;quot;When I hear stories like Jills and I hear other people's stories. And if I can change their lives in that way. Thats what keeps driving me. I just love it.andamp;quot; Doctor Heringer said Jill had over-sized teeth. They were discolored and she had uneven gums... To fix the problem, Doctor Heringer decided to used a laser. (Dr. Everett Heringer/Dentist) andamp;quot;Its like plastic surgery on the gums. when you have with the laseryou have plastic surgery on the gums, just to correct a lot of those tissue imprefections that are very subtle, but that is what makes things look so natural.andamp;quot; (Jill Goetz/Mandan) andamp;quot;Now I can smile and they are like wow, you have a beautiful smile.
