It's time to hop into the very last segment of Jungle Joe for summer 2009. This week, we take a look at the Joey, and all of the kangaroos! ((Jungle Joe)) Jungle Joe back out at the andamp;lt;a href=andamp;quot;http://www.kxnet.com/t/roosevelt-park-zooandamp;quot; class=andamp;quot;kxInlineLinkandamp;quot;andamp;gt;Roosevelt Park Zooandamp;lt;/aandamp;gt; showing you just another great reason to andamp;quot;hopandamp;quot; out here: the red kangaroos! We take a closer look at them today. Our closer look started off with watching them lounge in the sun this hot August morning. ((Becky Zahn)) We have 4 red kangaroos which were donated from the Denver Zoo in April. They're native to Austrailia. A family group of kangaroos are known as a andamp;quot;mob.andamp;quot; The males are known as andamp;quot;boomersandamp;quot; and the females are known as flyers. The red kangaroo name is kind of misleading for the females because they are typically a grayish blue color. ((Jungle Joe)) When you get up and see these kangaroos, or should I say: this mob of kangaroos, you'll notice a brand new edition to the family: a joey! ((Becky Zahn)) Their young are called joeys and we do have one on display this year! He's pretty active now a days since he's out of his mom's pouch most of the time. Sometimes you'll still see him in the pouch with a limb or two hanging out. It's pretty cute! ((Jungle Joe)) With all of their hoppin' happening around the clock, you can bet that these marsupials work up an appetite! ((Becky Zahn)) Here at the zoo they get fed a kangaroo diet: alfalfa, a variety of fruits and vegetables. They normally eat brows every day. They're pretty active compared to the gray kangaroos that we had. You'll see them hop around for a good part of the day. ((Jungle Joe)) And, you'll find when you come to visit the red kangaroos, it's like a 2-for-1 attraction, as they have opened their home to a few guests who share their exhibit. ((Becky Zahn)) They do share their exhibit with the emus. Most of the time they get along. Sometimes you'll see them chasing each other. But, it's pretty cute! ((Jungle Joe)) So, on your next trip to the Roosevelt Park Zoo, don't forget to come visit these unforgettable new-to-the-zoo faces. You're bound to see something that will jump to your attention.
