Six weeks after the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings said it was going to renew its minor league affiliation with the Toledo Walleye, the two club officially struck a one-year agreement Monday morning. The Walleye Hockey Club, which is set to play its inaugural East Coast Hockey League season at the new Lucas County Arena, agreed to a contract with the Red Wings for the 2009-10 season. In accordance with an agreement, the Red Wings will assign contracted players to the Walleye and, in return, the Walleye will develop talent for the NHL team as well as their American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Glass City's former ECHL franchise, the defunct Storm, had a long-standing relationship with the Red Wings and the Griffins. « Less
