A local college recently announced five honorees, who are being thanked for their work in the local community. The Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees has awarded the college’s highest honor to Jean C Howard, Ted and Phyllis Kidd and D. Jerome and Margery Slack. Each has been named an “NMC Fellow.” NMC has been naming “Fellows” since 1964 as a way of recognizing and thanking those who have made special contributions to the college... whether through creative counsel, monetary resources or inspiring leadership. All of the recently named NMC Fellows will be recognized at a dinner in their honor later this year. In other news, a summer music series in Thompsonville is kicking off soon with a performance by some local musicians. Folk group "Lake Effect" from Cadillac will open the Summer Sounds 2009 series on July 10 at 7pm. The series is being held at the Michigan Legacy Art Park within Crystal Mountain.
