against an a-p-s elementary teacher, for something that should never happen to a student. tonight aps is investigating after that teacher was accused of slapping a student. it happened today at an elementary school. danielle todesco is live at the school ... danielle, what do we know tonight? t/n: aps confirmed to me that the teacher accused works here at pajarito elementary school. but the district is keeping tight lipped about what exactly happened ... we showed up to pajarito elementary around 4-30 today.... and found an aps resource officer on campus long after school had ended. parents told me that's not something they usually see. this parent, hillary anderson says she wants to know why the officer was there. I'm very.... um, I'm curious! aps spokesperson rigo chavez confirmed they were notified around 4 o'clock this afternoon that a student may have been slapped by a teacher. aps police responded soon after. chavez told me over the phone that the teacher will likely be placed on administrative leave on monday... and that a letter may be sent home to parents then as well. If it was a grade that one of my kids were in, I would probably like to know about it right away. BUT APS WILL NOT release what grade the student is in...or what grade the teacher covers. anderson wants some answers. I'm very surprised. My kids have come here, I've had 3...they have come here all throughout the years and I've never heard of anybody being violent. we asked if the teacher will be placed on paid administrative leave. that, along with the other information, i'm told will have to wait until monday.

met today, to discuss the drought's crippling effects on the environment... and how it will affect tourism. erica zucco learned where the dry conditions hit the hardest --and which hotspots are still a go. she joins us live at tingley beach. erica? driving down road -- you can see how dry and dusty it looks, we expected bad news. but we were wrong. they handed out these maps and as it turns out, the most popular lakefronts - elephant butte, ute lake, navajo lake -- are all still open for business, big time. in fact -- state engineers say the levels aren't much worse than they've been in years past -- and kayaking, canoing and fishing are a total go. and a silver lining here -- the low levels mean they can do maintenance in lakes on things like boat ramps. "its kind of normal times for it, theres still a lot of surface acreage to boat on, Navajo, Butte Lake are all in really good condition." there are a few no-go's... clinton, conchas, storie, and morphy lakes are out of commission. overall, though, the tone was optimistic. the tourism department says they're doing all they can to convince outsiders that it's not that bad out here -- despite what comes to mind when you think "drought." live near the bosque, erica zucco, kob eyewitness news 4.

a recent poll shows new mexico governor susana martinez is on the radar of republican voters for president in 2016. danielle todesco has a look at that radar. the odd thing about the governor even being on their minds...is that these voters were polled in new hampshire. that's more than 22-hundred miles away from us here in new mexico. this was all done by public policy polling. they surveyed republicans in new hampshire...askin g them who they think they'd vote for in 2016 out of several republicans. senator rand paul led the poll with 28-percent. governor susana martinez only got 3-percent...but she was included. we took a look at past polls done by the p-p-p to gage those numbers. we found that in 2007...a very similar poll they did showed mitt romney with just 6-percent. then, just 3 years later...another poll had him at 41-percent. and as we all know, he won the republican primary and ran against president obama last year. so does this mean the governor could be just a few years away from a run for president? her office released a statement tonight saying she is completely focused on being new mexico's governor...and that she is not pursuing any other office. back to you. in a similar survey of new hampshire democrats .... hillary clinton has a commanding lead with 68 percent. she's followed by vice president joe biden....with 12 percent. senator elizabeth warren came in third.
