City councilors in El Paso will consider a resolution to condemn the violence across the border in Juarez. But some councilors want to go a step further, and as a city, call for the legalization of marijuana. The El Paso Times reports several city councilors say legalizing the drug would deal a huge blow to mexican cartels, which make big profits from selling marijuana on the black market. The resolution goes before councilors tonight and if passed is still only symbolic.

There's a demand for foster families throughout New Mexico, but in the Four Corners, CYFD officials are looking for specific foster families ones that can preserve the culture and heritage of Navajo children who are currently being cared for by the state. In San Juan County there are about 150 children in foster care. A third of them are Native American, mainly Navajo.

Managing a budget and balancing a checkbook are important life skills and state lawmakers want to also make them a high school requirement. Lawmakers dealing with the worst budget crisis in state history want to include financial literacy as a class that can count in the math requirements for graduation. Financial literacy teaches everything from careful credit card use to car loans and mortgages, currently it's an elective, the bill that passed in the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon would let students include it as one of their four math requirements.

the parents of a two year-old boy who is in intensive care at unm hospital. doctors think the boy's legs may have been tied together, and now he's in danger of losing them. minute thumbnail 06:00 pm cristina rodda asked the boy's mom about the allegations .. she's live at u-n-m hospital with what the mother has to say. the boy has been here for almost two weeks. while his parents have not been charged --- we've learned c-y- f-d has taken custody of the boy and his sister. this is no one's f businesses but mine and this is a family matter look my son was not tied up my son was not abused and that's all i'm going to say. so you deny all the allegations? yes i do. we were there today as c-y-f-d served a court summons to the two-year-old's boy mother. the boy showed up at the emergency room in santa fe almost two weeks ago with welts around his leg that were 4 centimeters wide. the boy was transferred to u-n-m hospital, and police started investigating because the injuries are suspicious. what was shared with us is that a dresser had fallen on the child against a toddler bed.
