<media:text>&gt;&gt; welcome back to "san antonio living.," it's time for a little mommy chat this morning and andrea sauceda is joins us from moms around sa. &gt;&gt; good morning. &gt;&gt; this is an important topic we are talking about this morning. teaching your kids will how to have a healthy life-style without contributing to an unhealthy body image. how do you do that! &gt;&gt; it's tough but what do you do when your son or daughter comes home and says someone at school called them fat, and what you want to do is focus on body image and our boys are also getting a lot of this as well, especially when they get to that awkward age where they have not stretched yet, and so they get chunky right before they stretch and so you want to be conscious of what you're telling them. &gt;&gt; and does this mean you sit down and go okay, today, kids i'm going to lecture you on healthy life-styles &gt;&gt; what you life-styles. &gt;&gt; what you don't want to do is sit them down and do a whole dump about eating and have them help you prepare dinner and talk about it then or when you're going to the grocery store or when you're talking about what activities to do as a family, and you don't want to talk about weight, you want to talk about living a healthy life-style, and be realistic, i'm 5 foot 1 on a healthy hair day and so you don't want to compare me to a 6-foot model. &gt;&gt; and make it a family affair, and i'm so busy i probably cook three dinners one for myself, one for my husband and for for my kids. &gt;&gt; maybe it a family affair like going for a walk in the neighborhood or shooting hoops in the front yard with your child, you're focusing on the healthy life-style part and about what you can do to keep yourself healthy. &gt;&gt; like i make lunches every night the night before school and i'm counting down the day, but you're saying have the kids have a hand in that. &gt;&gt; as parents, i have said this a million times, we can be preachy and like this is what you need to put in your lunch box and blah, blawrks but what you want to do is let go of some of that power. what you're doing is you're helping to teach them learn how to live a healthy life-style, and you can say well harks is great but how about if we put some fruit in there, too, because at the end of the day remember i tell you all the time we are raising little adults and the changes they make now will carry into their adult lives as well. &gt;&gt; and we all want to be a model but maybe that stick-thin image is not ride for your child. &gt;&gt; perp and what you don't want to do is focus on yourself because you're kids are going to do the same that you're doing. if they see you're weight sessed they are going to raise a weight-obsessed child as well. &gt;&gt; and she is on moms around sa and all sorts</media:text>

<media:text>" "good morning everyone - i'm donna terrell with my family health report.you may have noticed more people are tanned these days.you might think it's from the sun...but - the number of people getting sunless tans is growing. plus, sunless tanners are safe, easy to use - and you don't have to expose yourself to damaging ultraviolet rays. but with all the postitives about these products - it's important to not get them confused with products that protect against the sun. " " "Sunless tanners are perfectly safe to use. They are an excellent alternative to getting a natural suntan. They don't increase your risk of skin cancer. It's important to remember that they don't protect you from the sun, so if you are using a self-tanner you still have to use a high-SPF sunscreen to prevent a sunburn." :15DR. PILIANG says to look for a self- tanner that's easy to apply.be careful around the knees, ankles, and elbows - to avoid an uneven or "streaky" look.you can also apply a moisturizer to these areas before applying the self-tanner.you should also know that, paying more for a sunless tanner doesn't always get you a better look.3 " ""They all have the same active ingredient that makes the tan, but sometimes there is a cosmetic difference in how the product goes on. So, you may prefer somethin that is a little thinner, something that you can spray, there are mousse-like foams that go on very nicely." DR. piliang says the more you use a sunless tanner, the better you'll get at putting it on.she says a sunless tan will last about a week, but if you exfoliate your skin, you can make it go away faster. for more information on any of my family health stories, go to fox16.com,click on family health. and it's all right there for you. i'm donna terrell - see you later today on fox16 news at 5:30 and tonight on fox16 news at 9.have a good day arkansas. 3</media:text>

<media:text>one year later 10-on cam vo tonight... we're bringing you an update on an amazing family. you may remember the killpacks... we introduced you to them last year. at the time... mom, millie was pregnant with her daughter maggie. the couple already had 3 children... their youngest son davy... was born with spina bifida. then... they learned maggie... wou have the spinal disorder as well. after a battle with the insurance company... the killpacks were able to get an in-utero surgery that would fuse maggie's back while she was still in the womb. tonight... we find out how the family is doing now. hospital nats HOSPITAL visits... maggie eating HOMEMADE MEALS... 3:27-30 woah! AND HORSE therapy... 10:56-58 "walk on!" THIS IS THE day in the life of the killpack family. and while matt and millie say... it's a lot of work... 4:11-15 "right there, yeah" THE work... is worth it. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 25:00-07 "miracles have happened in our lives and it's not something tangible just the way that our family has changed from what we've been through" MATT AND millie are the parents of 4 kids... ages 8, 6, 4 and 9 months. the two youngest... have spina bifida. this is davey at his horse therapy. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 23:04-07 "he just, feels like a stud on that horse" 19:26-29 "did you have a good ride?" "yeah" "was it fun?" "yeah!" the couple says this has been great for their son's confidence.. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 21:30-35 "it makes him feel cool, you know he's a big kid up there riding that horse and he has a lot of power, that's a neat thing for him" BUT DAVEY STILL has struggles... especially during spring and summer... when he wants to be outside playing. but... his limited mobility doesn't stop him from trying! millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 33:42-51 "He crawls down the street, to the neighbors house and it makes me cringe and he has holes in his jeans but you just gotta let him do it" THE PAST YEAR WITH davey... and now his new little sister maggie... has been a whirlwind. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 32:35-49 "I look back at a year ago and it seems like a dream. I can't believe we went through with that was really hard and I think, woah that was tough and now, it's ok, we're good" WHEN millie and matt learned their daughter would have the same disability as their son... they looked into a surgery that would sew up her spine while still in the womb. but getting the insurance to pay was a struggle. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 26:50- 27:03 "we weren't expecting the media or any kind of news coverage this was just something that our little family was going through. But it was because of the news that we were able to get the surgery" MILLIE SAYS the question she gets most now... is did the surgery work. to that... millie simply has no answer. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 27:35-49 "we will never know, it will take years to kind of know what Maggie's abilities are, but she can feel her toes, she has feelings all the way down to her toes... Which is really amazing for a spina bifida kids and we're grateful for that" THE family sees small differences... but the surgery wasn't a cure-all. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 27:49- 28:03 "she still has spina bifida, it's not a cure. The fetal surgery doesn't change everything, so she has health problems and struggles and concerns and we just work through those as they come along" MILLIE SAYS THE FETAL surgery may not be right for every family... but it was right for them. and since they made the decision... they've never looked back millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 29:52- 30:04 "we had the surgery and we don't think to ourselves was it worth it, is she better because of it? Wjust did it and moved forward" THAT RESOLVE... is one of the most inspiring things about this family. to some... spina bifida is seen as a crippling disability. but this family chooses to find the joy it brings. millie &amp;amp; matt killpack 25:15-21 "I think that it's brought our family closer together, and I think Maggie in a lot of ways, in every way just completes our family" THE ONLY THING MORE impressive than the killpack's resolve... is their love for each other. [b7]killpack family one year later 10-tag we also asked about their insurance situation. millie says right now... insurance is a very fluid thing. the surgery is still pending a year later... but the killpacks say they're just happy they were able to get the surgery for their daughter.</media:text>

<media:text>it's a study that made headlinesfor being the first to show a link between smoking and an increased risk for colon cancer... especially in women. the lead researcher of that study is now here in the islands... tming with the university of hawaii's cancer research center.we sent taizo braden to find out why hawaii was picked for the next part of the study. Dr. Inger Gram, a professor atthe University of Tromso in Norway..just completed a 4-decade long study on why the number of colon cancer cases has exploded.. around the world...for men and women. " colo-rectia cancer is actuall the 3rd most common cancer in the world and in the U.S..in both men and women..and it's the 2nd cause of cancer death " the stud confirmed..for the first time medically ...that "lighting up will increase your chance of getting colon cancer..but thebig surprise was what the study found out about women " 1:15:04 it was very surprisin that women who smoke less than men get more colon cancer thanmen 1:15:10 " "1:16:19 for example women wh smoke 20 years have increased risk of colon cancer where as men had to smoke 40 years for the same risk increase 1:16:25" dr. Gram is now visiting theuniversity of hawaii for the next 3 months ..to continue her research about women smokers higher risk of colon cancer than men ...especially withinhawaii's diverse ethnic groups. " 1:18:50 and also the excitinthing is if we can look to see the difference between the ethnic groups 1:18:55 in norway our study group was all caucasians 1:19:00 " also the location helps wit the research. "1:19:50 university of troms where I work is the northern most university in the world and university of hawaii is the mostremote 1:19:03" dr. gram' research into local ethnic groups is expected to bepresented to the American association of cancer researchthis november Taizo Braden KHON2 news.</media:text>

<media:text>for all the information. &gt;&gt; well as the weather warms up and people wear less clothing, we put a focus on getting healthy. do you know what you need to get your body in tip top condition? khloe fowler registered dietitian from lifetime fitness tulsa is here to help us make sense of the supplements. you always go to the store. health food stores. you see so many types of vitamins and supplements to take. it is just like you are lost in it. so what supplementsdo should we take every day? &gt;&gt; every day. well, lacey, a lot of people take supplements for different reasons. some of them take them for exercise performance. some take them for weight-loss. for stress management. and then some take them because they feel like it is part of a healthy way of life. dietitians at lifetime fitness developed a core foundational supplement line. that usually includes five core supplements. those are a multi-vitamin. &gt;&gt; there is one for women and one for men. &gt;&gt; yes. &gt;&gt; perfect. &gt;&gt; vitamin d. &gt;&gt; what is the vitamin d do? &gt;&gt; vitamin d is actually, in my opinion, one of the most important vitamins known to man. it has affects for the entire body. there is not a cell in your body that is not impacted in some way, shape or form by vitamin d. &gt;&gt; you cannot get it in regular foods? &gt;&gt; you can. but the amount that you need, to sustain optimal function are so high. that you cannot possibly get it from food. a lot of people think, okay, well, i will rely on sunlight to get my vitamin d. unless you are exposing 50 percent of your body, to sunlight, for 15 minutes a day without sunscreen, then you are probably not going to get a sufficient amount of vitamin d. even from sunlight. &gt;&gt; so vitamin d. what about, i hear a lot about fish oil. mega three oil. why is that important ? &gt;&gt; omega 3's are super important for controlling inflammation. and the reason why we have inflammation in the body is because we're exposed to so many toxins in the day, in our air, our water, food supply and then we also consume a very high amount of omega six and nine's. and those are inflammatory fats. so the omega 3's counteract the effects of the omega six's and nine's and environmental toxins and reduce the inflammation and help the body to function to the best ability. &gt;&gt; can we have like fish? you know, can we literally eat fish? &gt;&gt; likelihood you would consume enough in 24 hours, to meet your needs is slim. &gt;&gt; you were talking about you have toxins in the body. and you have brought in a detox pack. what is this? &gt;&gt; absolutely. detox kit is a fantastic way to kind of revamp your body's immune system. and to sort of revamp the gastrointestinal system. i always say that the very most important part of metabolism starts with the mouth. and in the appropriate place. so what we do, by doing a detox, is that we will cleanse the entire gastrointestinal system, try to eradicate some of the toxins we have absorbed over me. and we will help to reestablish good gut bacteria. in the intestinal tract. so we increase the likelihood we absorb the nutrients we con group and is it dangerous if you are not actually releasing some of the toxins? &gt;&gt; absolutely. so those toxins have a tendency to build up. the place we store them is in the fat cells. so fat cells can turn to this phenomenon called brown fat. brown fat is a toxic sort of fat. and so as we go through detoxification process, our fat cells release those toxins. and then our liver, then works to eradicate those toxins from the system. including the lymphatic and kidney and renal system. and we will excrete those toxins through waste. and when we do that, then we maximize the metabolism and fution of all the cells and tissues through the body. &gt;&gt; wow! that was a mouth full. so while we are doing all of these things. especially detention of the you have to be on a specific diet plan or eat the same? &gt;&gt; absolutely. you have to be on a specific diet plan. because there are certain nutrients that are required by the liver to maintain its detoxification process. so a lot of cleanses or detox programs that you have heard of. i am sure. they will say, oh, well, we are going to do all liquids. or we are going to follow no protein, high carb. &gt;&gt; sounds so miserable and hard to follow. &gt;&gt; exactly. the detox kit designed by lifetime actually includes a specific meal plan. what you will do, is you will do two shakes, each day. that would be sort of like meal replacements. &gt;&gt; this shake? &gt;&gt; exactly. this is the -- &gt;&gt; vanilla. &gt;&gt; fast fuel. &gt;&gt; is it good? &gt;&gt; very good. also chocolate. and you do a shake. and combine the shake with a fiber supplement called fiber mint. &gt;&gt; this one? <media:credit>WTVA ABC Tupelo, MS</media:credit>
<media:text>Some forty different families were on hand at the Gloster Creek Village in Tupelo to receive recognition in from the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.
Every one who comes has lost a loved one most of them remembered by way of a large screen or Gift of Life Quilt with picutres of those who have donated organs and some who have received.
One of the donor recipients on hand was Caitland Goode of Amory .
She is also one of several students awarded a scholarship for writing about donors.
She would not be alive had it not been for her best friend who passed away.
                        "Ivy Lee from Hamilton Mississippi.
"She passed the day I got my transplant."
'I was 15 and didn't know what to think. I kind of cried because one of my friends was losing her life and its kind of hard."
Her story is like so many others here who took ttime remember loved ones as well. Not only were deceased family members' names read out load, they were placed on a memorial that will stand in the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency offices.
STANDUP...Organizers say they realize this is a sad and solemn occasion and can be tough on family members in attendance here. But they add, that if there is a silver lining to this cloud,it is that those who have lost their lives and made donations have insured that others will live on."
"Well ,I know that's something he wanted to do.He lived a good life .And you're never ready to give them up.
"Of course she's still living here. Actually one we do hope to meet the recipients of the cornea. We are told that two people now can see now because of her cornea donation."

"Its very important. When you think of people that are waiting for transplants that pass away because they don't get it. And its more than just the organs that can be donated. There's tissues that can help."
There is also more need for donors say ortganizers.
"So there's a dire need, in Mississippi alone there are 800 individuals right now waiting for a kidney."
They are waiting ,he says ,for people like these honored Sunday. In Tupelo, Wayne Hereford WTVA news.</media:text>

<media:text>tonight about a new strain of bird flu spreading through china . health officials are on alert as ... 28 people have been infected and 9 are dead-- . newschannel 3 reporter shirin rajaee is standing by live in santa barbara ... shirin...is there concern here at home? . well paula--- health officials are always concerned when there's a new strain of influenza-- . the good thing is at this time.. no cases have been identified in the u.s. . the virus was found about a week ago in shanghai... and just today two more fatalities.. bringing the total to 9 . since we have quite a few tourists coming here.. and locals traveling to china.. our health officials are taking this very seriously. . in china 400 labs and 500 hospitals, are on the lookout -- . poultry markets in three cities are closed - and more than 20,000 birds have been killed as a precaution-- . it looks like it's spread from direct contact with chickens or pigeons.... pigeons . dr. charity thoman tells me... what scientists worry about... is if this new h7-n9 strain of avian flu mutates again - and passes from human to human. if for some reason this virus did mutate and spread... That should happen . with a new mutation people have no natural immunity and there is no vaccine yet to fight it. and if just one infected person... flies from shanghai to our area-- . the virus could easily spread ross the u.s. threatening hundreds of thousands= . the good news.. our counties all have this technology where we could diagnose a new strain of influenza much faster than some other areas throughout the state san luis obispo, ventura, santa barbara county? Yes... immeidately . so far.... the virus is still contained - in eastern china-- but santa barbara and slo county public health deparents are advising the medical community to be aware.. especially for those who have traveled to china in the last week.... . symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. . cdc is advicing travelers going tohina.. or just returning... to get checked out. . to follow good hygiene--- wash your hands often, eat food fully cooked. . for more safety tips... visit our website at keyt.com . another couple was eliminated tonight on abc's hit show "dancing with the stars." . find out who.</media:text>

<media:text>allergy season could stil be a bad one-- even though it's late starting. the forecast follows last year's rough spring - which took a toll on alergy sufferers. 13wham's kelsie smith joins us now with a look at what we can expect. don, a doctor i spoke with says we are set up for a potentially bad spring alergy season. if temperatures are warm and conditions are dry it could be a difficult season for allergy sufferers. buds and flowers are signs of spring - but for those with allergies - there are signs of suffering. 53:06 my eyes et all pufy they're red in the morning, coughing, sneezing constantly kyle wigent says over the past couple of weeks his alergy symptoms have been geting worse. 52:43 I don't have insurance so I just go to rite aid or wherever I have to go to but nothing seems to work right now and it could get worse. 46:17 we're begining to se patients coming in with spring allergies JOHN CONDEMI PHYSICIAN at allergy asthma imunology of rochester says last year was bad for spring allergies because it started early and was dry. this year - even though the season started later - it could be bad because the pollen season will be shorter and could be more intense. 48:16 if we have a warm spring without rain and without that big snow fall that may freze everything we'll probably have a very heavy season THE ASTHMA &amp;amp; allergy foundation of america ranked rochester's alergy season - the 37th worst in the country - based on last years alergy season. suffers like wigent hope projections are wrong. 53:14 I just hopes it goes away doctor condemi says rag weed is usually the biggest culprit for allergies followed by gras - then trees. but this year the tre pollen could be bad - much like last year - because everything wil bloom around the same time. his advice to alergy suffers - take over the counter medicine or go to a doctor for a prescription - but the best medicine is to stay inside in air conditioning. changes are coming to this spring's lilac festival. the</media:text>

<media:text>governor brownback has a pile of petitions on his desk right now. they're from a group asking him not to sign a bill from the legislature that restricts abortion rights. yesterday the group spoke at the statehouse about why he shouldn't sign it. the legislature passed a bill friday that says life begins at fertilization. it also blocks tax breaks for abortion providers... and bans abortions performed solely because of the baby's sex. the abortion rights activists say they don't necessarily think their protest will stop brownback from signing the bill ... but they want to send a message. ### &amp;lt;"we're showing that people of faith oppose this legislation, students oppose this legislation, educators oppose it, and of course those who work in the pro choice community are really concerned about those dangerous implications of politicians playing doctor."&gt; after the press conference the group marched up to brownback's office and turned in 16- hundred petitions. a spokeswoman for brownback says the governor hasn't received the bill in his office but is expected to sign it. he's signed numerous bills restricting abortion since taking office in 2011. ### the state department</media:text>

<media:text>insurance companies are now tracking the spending habits of their customers. consumer advisor clark howard says what you buy at the clothing store or at a restaurant could set off a red flag that you have an unhealthy lifestyle. it's all new this morning. are you ready to be creeped out. you're not going to believe what i'm going to tell you. big brother is spying on what size clothes you buy. this isn't a joke. insurance companies working with employers are tracking what you do in your life and then contacting you and saying "hey we've noticed you've bought a clothing size two sizes larger than what you used to buy. you packing on a little bit of weight, do you want to talk to somebody about your nutrition?" i'm not kidding. what the insurers are doing, with full cooperation with your employer, this is when your employer provides health care coverage to you, they are buying outside data on you, tracking your movements, what you do, where you do it. your habits, your shopping, your eating out. they see a lot of high calorie meals out - well you might get a reminder about nutrition programs available. i know supposedly they are lookinout for our health, i think they are looking out for our wallet in a way that's not okay. i'm clark howard. pause for voice track Nice and warm through</media:text>

<media:text>. a new law is in effect . that will have an impact on up to 50 percent of women who get mammograms in california. . newschannel 3 reporter victoria sanchez has more on the legislation that will notify women with dense breast tissue. :01 :11 :33 the national cancer institue recommends women age 40 and older get a mammogram every one to two years . but that routine check might not COVER EVERYONE. Dr. Judy Dean Almost always when you hear someone has had a breast cancer diagnosis and they say, 'And just two months ago I had a normal mammogram,' it's a woman with dense breast tissue. DENSE breast tissue shows up white on a mammogram which ishe same color as a tumor . which makes it difficult to tell the DIFFERENCE. Dr. Judy Dean It's been described as trying to see a snow ball in a blizzard. Victoria Sanchez Forty to 50 percent of women have some degree of dense breast tissue and may not know it. Now, they will be notified when they get their mammogram results if they have the tissue that sometimes covers up cancer. doctor judy dean testified at the california state senate on why the notification is so important. she's glad that it's now manditory for doctors to share that information with their patients so they can get futher testing. like 3-d mammography . that shows tissue in overlapping layers. and ultrasounds . that have proven to be an effective even WHEN MAMMOGRAMS ARE NOT. Dr. Judy Dean Now it's up to 42 breast cancers that I've detected personally with ultrasound that are not evident on their mammograms and 36 are so small they are not a palpable lump either. They would not have been detected without ultrasound. with the new law in effect . women will now know if they have dense breast tissue and if they should see a doctor for further screening. in santa barbara, victoria sanchez, newschannel 3. . santa maria's planning commission is meeting this thursday to take a look at a proposed department</media:text>

He's already given patients like Antonella Soliani their lives back. antonella Soliani/Patient: for me, he is God Soliani -- who is from Italy - has been monitoring her blood sugar levels and injecting herself with insulin since she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 14th. But now -- she is free.. are you still on insulin? No. I don't use insulin. Soliani is one of a select group of people who underwent a clinical trial at the Diabetes Research Institute in Miami. Doctors injected insulinroducing islet cells from a donor organ into Soliani's liver. She is no longer insulin dependent. suzanne boyd/reporting: The problem with implanting these islet cells into the liver is that patients have to be on anti- rejection drugs and that's not really a cure. But the next phase of the project would create a mini organ that would replace the patient's pancreas. dr. Camillo Ricordi/Diabetes Research Institute: it's a treatment for diabetes now, but it will be a cure when we can do it without anti-rejection drugs. So you see the right class there of cells. Oh wow! Dr. Ricordi started this some 25 years ago when he developed a chamber to extract and purify those special insulin-producing islet cells. very nice islets Now - almost 3 decades later - he's starting these new clinical trials and he believes a cure is within reach. I didn't think it would take so long. But for Antonella - the wait it over. She may not be cured of her diabetes -- but she says she is free of it. Free. You feel free? Yes, I feel free! In Miami, Suzanne Boyd, cbs 12 News. [A36]GETTING CLOSER TO A cure for diabetes-tag the procedure that antonella received -- the islet transplanta tion - has only been approved in canada, england, and switzerland, but should be proved in the u-s very soon. as for a cure - meaning patients won't have to be on those anti-rejection drugs the doctor says that's probably 5 to 10 years away. <media:text>Let's talk about a surprising link between red wine and hearing loss. Let's say you drink a glass of red wine at the end of the day to relax...that could be helping your hearing, too. An ear, nose and throat specialist at the Henry Ford hospital in Detroit says that resveratrol, a substance found in red grapes and red wine, may have the potential to protect against hearing and cognitive decline. The best way to get resveratrol is through a healthy diet, but there are some very common foods that are high in the substance, such as peanuts and grapes. Ultimately, these findings suggest that resveratrol may protect the ears from noise- induced hearing loss...and hearing loss caused by loud noise can interfere with sleep, raise your blood pressure, lipids and blood sugar. Much more still to come on 33 News daybreak, Brother Baker is</media:text>

<media:text>phone probably doesn't come to mind. but maybe it should. thanks for joing us tonight i'm robb hanrahan.. and i'm tanya foster.. with how attached we are to our cell phones it's not a surprise that what we touch ends up on it. but just how dirty is it? we put it to the test. cell phones. we all have one -- five billion of us worldwide to be exact. but have you ever thought to clean it? mos a cell phone is probably one of the few items you might never clean. but if you think about all the places it's been -- where you've laid it -- what it's come into contact with .... you m not be so shocked to learn about all the creepy- crawlers your cell phone is harboring. Standup: Josh8719 And because we have our cell phones with us every day all the time, they're a prime breeding ground for bacteria, not only because we keep them in warm places like our pockets, but we take them in places we probably shouldn't, making them dirtier than a toilet seat. MOS Standup: Josh8710 But studies have shown that our cell phones are dirtier than the bottom of a shoe -- even a toilet seat, so what better place to put that theory to the test then the Biotechnology lab here at Hbg U. 11:28 "it's hard to believe how dirty your surroundings can be. we had four people volunteer their phones for testing. the university's vice president for communications -- JOSH8694 44:53 I have no idea what we're going to find -- we might even find Jimmy Hoffa before this is all over. TWO biotechnology students... and my own.. JOSH8681 28:35 Will allow fecal contamination, yeast we took swabs of each phone, a toilet seat --- and the bottom of my photogra pher's shoe. SOT: Josh JOSH8695 47:05 Doing this job you don't know what you're gonna find. EACH SAMPLE was put in selective petri dishes that will determine what bacteria grows ---general bacteria, yeast, strep, staph -- even fecal contamination the samples were put in a incubator ---- and two days later --- the results. JOSH8793: NAT: This is Tanya's 33:43 Good news is it doesn't have the strep BAD NEWS IS -- IT DID HAVE a number of forms of general bacteria -- and... JOSH8799: 36:47 These are E-coli yes, you heard right e-coli --- fecal contamination. and i definitely wasn't alone. each cell phone tested, came up dirty JOSH8802 40:50 We can see easily that there is an assortment of bacteria growing on the plates ...some phones even had staph -- which can cause anything from pimples and boils to life threatening diseases like phneumonia and meningitis. 08:58 "with cell phones, you ignore it -- so unless you're in the habit of cleaning it, of course it's going to be dirtier." and that's because we clean our toilets more than our phones. the results of this study proved just that -- the phones showed more types of bacteria than the toilet. and if you're wondering about my photograher's shoe.... JOSH8800: 37:06 This is your shoe and this is the toilet -- Your shoe was dirtier than the toilet seat bacteria that was on the bottom of my photogra pher's shoe -- was also on the cell phones -- that's how dirty they were. and i have to say i was horrified at the results on my phone. i'm borderline germ-a-phobe --- o-c-d at my home when it comes to cleanliness and germs --- but i never thought to actually clean my cell phone --- something i have with me almost all of the time. so what should we do? doctor leena recommends using a disinfecting wipe on it a few times a week. that'll remove nearly all of the bacteria -- and we actually tested a phone wiped down with disinfectant and it did in fact kill almost all of the bacteria. from cell phones to facebook. a new study shows more parents</media:text>
